Abbott, Texas – ENGIE North America (“ENGIE”), a leader in developing and managing renewable energy projects, and Blattner Energy, an industry-leading renewable energy contractor, announced a major give-back effort with the Abbott Independent School District located close to the Sun Valley Solar project currently under construction. This includes a monetary donation of $21,400 for a new roof for Abbott High School, school supplies, and an opportunity for students to learn more about renewable energy projects and careers.

As a long-term neighbor in Abbott, ENGIE is dedicated to making a positive impact on the community in addition to the local economic benefits, jobs and clean energy it will provide. Together ENGIE and Blattner are helping the Abbott Independent School District make major building updates to cover a new roof on the cafeteria and improving the long-term infrastructure through this donation.

“ENGIE is excited and proud to become a member of the local Abbott community through the Sun Valley Solar project,” said Ryan Economy, project developer for ENGIE. “We’re looking forward to further opportunities to work with the community and the positive impact this project will have on job creation, economic development, and opportunities for everyone in the county.”

The 346-MWdc Sun Valley Solar project located in Hill County, Texas, consists of more than 650,000 bifacial panels, 21 miles of roads and a substation. It is expected to be completed later this year and will be owned and operated by ENGIE.

“Blattner is honored to partner with ENGIE on the Sun Valley Solar project, and give back to the Abbott school district and community,” stated Brian Anstine, director of construction at Blattner. “Blattner shares in ENGIE’s commitment to jobsite safety and quality, local job creation and community stewardship.”

The project team at Sun Valley Solar will also host a career fair in February with an additional high school-focused portion, giving the students an introduction to job opportunities that the fast-growing renewable energy industry offers. A field trip is also in the works for some high school students to visit the Sun Valley Solar project to tour the site and see first-hand the solar energy construction project with each trade at work.

“We are excited to move forward with this project with ENGIE and Blattner which directly supports upgrades to the school building, but more importantly, it also provides us an opportunity to build a greater understanding and connection to renewable energy for our students” said Superintendent Eric Pustejovsky. “We are pleased to welcome our new long-term neighbor, Sun Valley Solar and look forward to our district’s students learning more about renewables in the years to come while enjoying a new roof today.”
